Ten More Funerals

Ten more funerals added to our shame;
Every one of us who lives here share in the blame,
For no matter how often these tragedies bring new tears,
We fail to change the landscape, driven by our fears.

We posture and ponder; we play political ball;
While in Roseburg, Oregon ten more people take a fall.
More time will be invested arguing about gun control
Than time we spend praying over the unjustly taken souls.

The price we pay for an amendment, to me is much too high;
Every time this story repeats itself all I can do is cry.
This is something you should know, if nothing more we ever do,
One day the story on the news is going to be about someone dear to you.
