He walked across the troubled water bridge
And wore the scars to prove it;
He pushed against the walls of injustice
In his quest to move it.
He walked in the shadows of a revered King
With a torch still burning bright.
He never walked away from anything
When he knew his trouble was right.
He walked for those who could not walk themselves,
When he met resistance, he walked right through it;
But, now that he has taken his last walk,
I will walk to honor John Lewis.
